What does Thanksgiving mean to you?
Thanksgiving is an opportunity to stop and thank God for all we have and those we love. I'd appreciate hearing from each of you. What does Thanksgiving means to you? How do you plan to celebrate this Thanksgiving? Do you have any wish or hope or blessing for each other this Thanksgiving? Is prayer said around your table?

The Native American prayer, below, used at the St. Joseph High School prayer service may be a prayer to share around your thanksgiving table.
We return thanks to our mother, the earth,
which sustains us.

This Thanksgiving, my family and i will spend it at my grandparents house. We go there every year, its like a tradition. Family from longisland and florida come down and everyone contributes something for the dinner table. This year my mother got a Mariachi band to come, its a surprise for my grandparents. Its going to be a great Thanksgiving!
This Thanksgiving I plan to spend it with my family, like it should be. We're all going to come together in my house and have a big feast. Everyone has to contribute with food, so there's going to be food in my house for days. We're going to dance all night and just have fun giving thanks for the life we live. I hope everyone's thanksgiving turns out beautifully.
What Thanksgiving means to me is the appreciation of the remembrances of our hard times and struggles that we were able to overcome throughout life. I plan to celebrate this Thanksgiving by enjoying a traditional dinner with my close family in my aunt's house. I have hope that we continue to grow better relationships between one another. Yes, there is a special prayer said around my table. Many people in many family lead the prayer.
For me Thanksgiving means a time to celebrate with family and thank God for all the blessings we share in life. This Thanksgiving I plan to celebrate it at my house with my entire family. The wish I have for each member of my family is for them to live successful, happy, and religious lives. Yes,there is a family prayer said around my table. My parents and grandparents mostly lead the prayer at Thanksgiving.
This is the first big Thanksgiving that my mom and I will be hosting. We are inviting friend sand family from Maryland and Massachusetts. We will be inviting about 20 people. My mom will be cooking the "traditional" Thanksgiving meal, turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc; and I will be the taste-tester. I am very thankful that we get to host this event for my family in our new apartment. I have been waiting for this holiday for forever. I think about it every time that I am hungry in class.
For Thanksgiving I will be going to my grandmother's house. I am going to meet all of my exteneded family. This will be awesome. I hope there will be no drama, but just a fun and happy expierence. My mom will be making her famous potatoe salad, which is the best ever. My brother and I are bringing the four cans of egg nog. One famous tradition that my family and I do is say what we are thankful for at the dinner table. I just cant wait for Thanksgiving! ! !
I agree with Taisha. I believe that Thanksgiving is time to thank God for getting you through any type of struggles. It is time to thank him for whatever you are grateful for in your life. It is also time to sit with the wonderful family you have and the food that you are able to eat.
I agree with Taisha and Kaysie. It is very true that Thanksgiving is a time to thank God for all we have. It is also a time to remember the bad times and to make good out of it. Thanksgiving is a time of prayer to be happy especially arond the ones you love and care for. Thanksgiving is not only about the delicious turkey but about what you are grateful fot because there are others out there with nothing so you have to be thankful.
Thanksgiving to me is a time to give thanks. We might give thanks for our health, our safety but most important our family,friends and loved ones.If we are thankful for our loved ones being a part of our life this is the day to give thanks for this.This thanksgiving I will be with some of my family members and we will have dinner started with a prayer by the oldest family member present.Even though I won't be with all my family and friends I still wish them the best and will give thanks for having them as part of my life.
Thanksgiving is a time for me and my family to spend time together and for us to really appreciate everything in our lives. This Thanksgiving I will most likely go upstate to my aunt's house in Massachusetts because traditionally, Thanksgiving is held at her house. Whatever does end up happening for Thanksgiving this year, I will enjoy it with my family and give thanks to God for everything He has given me.
In response to Carol's post, I think her mother getting a Mariachi band is awesome. I'm sure her Thanksgiving is going to be even better this year because of it. I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving and stays safe.
This Thanksgiving i hope to go to the parade in the city. In the Afternon I plan on going to my grandmother's house to spend time with my father's side of the family. Everyone from my father's side of the family will be there. I plan to hang out with my cousins and my aunts and uncles. I also plan on eating everything my grandma cooked. Since she is the only one who cooks for Thanksgiving i am grateful to have her.
This Thanksgiving, my family and I will all be going to my grandparents' house. Most of my family goes to my grandparents' house in Brooklyn because it is like where we have our little reunion. We do it every year so we can see the family from Boston and Philadelphia. The rule is if you are coming, you have to bring something to eat or help cook and clean. During Thanksgiving Dinner we go around the table and say anything new or exciting happening in our lives. I can't to see my cousins from Philly!!
To me Thanksgiving means that you should reflect on all the thing you have to be thanful for like he family, your health, and etc. I plan to spend this Thanksgiving with my family and friends. I'm leaving a response to Carol Vega's comment. My family and I do the same thing as you on Thanksgiving with the going to my grandparents' house. The meaning of thanksgiving to me is being together with the people that mean the most to you and appreciating the blessings you have. This year I'm spending it at my grandma's house where everybody else will come together and prepare a meal. We pick someone different every year to make the turkey so this year it's my turn :) . I cooked the turkey before so it's nothing new to me. I like cooking for other people especially my family. My family my not be all that big but we have a lot of food and love to go around.
TamaraT...My Thanksgiving would be spent with my nephew ,sister,her fiance,and my mother.During this time we usually listen to music and gossip to each other about what going on in our live.So far my mother is going to do that cooking and play the Christmas music .This year is special because it will be my nephew's first Thanksgiving .!! :-)
This Thanksgiving I'm spending it with my family at my aunt's house. Every year we take turns cooking the turkey. This year my mom is cooking the turkey. Everyone who is attending the family dinner has to contribute a plate for the table. The females usually make a special dominican dish and the males bring the drinks. It is also my uncle's birthday so we will have a cake for him. I'm looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with my family. It is always fun when we all get together!

Thanksgiving to me is a time for all the family to come together share memories and tell eachother how thankful they are for eachother. To thank god for keeping us and our loved ones healthy. This Thanksgiving im celebrating it with my family and for us to eat laugh and enjoy ourselves. My mom will lead us in prayer as she does every year. I think Taisha and I have similar views on Thanksgiving. We also both base it on our family. Her tradition is also very similar to mine as my family and I plan to celebrate the holiday surronded by those who love us. I feel that her Thanksgiving is very family-oriented and celebratory. I feel her comments was very descriptive.
I think that Kaysie H.'s comment is very traditional. She shows that she is very close to her family just like me. She seems to have great respect for them and keeps them in her prayers at all times. Also, like my family, many people lead the Thanksgiving prayer. I hope that she has a great Thanksgiving celebration.
Taisha B thanksgiving sounds like she and her family have a good time. What thanksgiving means to her is very strong and im happy her family overcome their struggles and give thanks for that. I hope you have a good thanksgiving.
To me Thanksgiving is a day where you get together with family and friends and you give thanks to all that you have. It means that you allow people to recognize what you are thankful for. This Thanksgiving, like many others, I am going to my grandmothers house to help her cook and have dinner. Carol, your sense of thaksgiving is similar to mine.I like how you say going to your grandparents house is tradition because thats strong in hispanic families like ours.That you have family coming over from different places shows the unity of your family.The Mariachi band as a surprise for your grandparents sounds great and I'm sure they'll love it.Hope your thanksgiving does turn out great.
For Thanksgiving me and my family go down to my aunt's house in Queens and have dinner there. Most of the time family from Puerto Rico fly in. Lie my uncle did this year. We eat dinner later on in the evening like at 7pm. And the whole family has to eat together. :D
To me Thanksgiving is a time to count your blessings and give thanks to the people who have help you through your struggles and give thanks to those who are strong pillars in your life. I'm going to spend this Thanksgiving with my small and very close family. Everyone of my family members will come over and bring a dish they made. I will help my mother in the kitchen as she bakes and set the dinning room table. A tradition during Thanksgiving which we will do this year is go around the table and saying one thing that we are thankful while also remembering all those who have died in our family this year.

I feel that Kaysie truely celebrates Thanksgiving the right way. When she said they do pray and that its either her parents or grandparents who lead, that seem traditional, like the true meaning of Thanksgiving in which family and friends come together to eat and enjoy themselves.
During Thanksgiving, my family comes together and eat a big meal that never includes turkey, while discussing current events and things going on in our lives. We usually go to my uncle's house and he provides most of the meal but my aunt and mom sometimes contribute. Thanksgiving is just a time to come together and be thankful for whatever you have and to always remember to cherish those people and things before they're gone. It is just a holiday that is more than meets the eye of just enjoying huge quantities of food.
I like Taisha's comment on prayer in her family. My family does not pray as often as we should. I may bring that up this Thanksgiving to bring a religious sense in our holiday celebration. It could bring us closer than we already are or give us a deep spiritual bond. That's a great thing to do on Thanksgiving, Taisha!
Thanksgiving to me means a lot of food and gathering with friends and family. It's also to give thanks to God and everyone that are still in our lives. In my family every year things change, like the food, what house we meet up in and even sometimes the time we start to eat. But the things that don't change is the people. All my little cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends come every year. We first talk among our selves then we pray and then get to eating. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year because it gets us ready for Christmas and the New Year and its around the time of my birthday. So I get late birthday presents.
I want to comment on Carol's thanksgiving because it sounds like a lot of fun! My family doesn't really consider Thanksgiving as a tradition but as another blessing for another beautiful meal with family. Your family get together sound like a lot of fun. I find it very nice how your family is surprising your grandparents with a Mariachi band. I would love to see there reaction to it ! I hope you have a Thanksgiving !
Kaysie H... I like that your family all comes together to celebrate this holiday. I think the idea that your grandparents always lead the family in prayer is a very good way to set tradition. My family is very similar in celebrating.I also plan on celebrating with my family.I think your traditions are very interesting and hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving.
I agree with Sr. Joan in that saying thank you to God is more than enough. God has done so many things for us that we cannot ignore.In my family we share some of these blessings that we have received and we pray. We then are very grateful for the food we have received. We also pray for others who do not have the opportunity to eat as we do.
To me Thanksgiving means to spend time with your family and have a nice meal. This Thanksgiving I am planning to spend time with both my family and my best friend. My family would come over to my house to play the WII and watch football games. Afterwards I would go over to my best friend house for a little while to catch up with each other lives. Then I would go back home to spend the rest of the night with the family.

This Thanksgiving happens to land on my uncle's birthday, therefore it shall be a dinner/birthday party. My mother and aunts will most likely roast a turkey and then buy a birthday cake. So basically the celebration will end up being a birthday party for my uncle.

Thanksgiving means to me giving thanks to all the small little things that matter to you in life . This year i plann on speniding Thanksgiving with my 2nd family whihc is my bstfriend's house int Connecticut. My wish and blessings for Thanksgiving this year is, may everyone stay safe , enjoy the little things in life , whatever is handed to you appreciate as much as you can because their are people in the world that re less fortunate then us. This Thanksgiving my family and I are inviting out family from Jamaica to our house. This year we are having a huge feast along with food from our country. To me this will be the best Thanksgiving I've had in years. Im excited to have fun, play music, and enjoy eating a whole lot of good food.
I agree with Tamara J about Thanksgiving because it shows that God give us a special chance to celebrate with the people we love, eat the food from our culture, and praise those who dont have the things we have but to pray they still survive. We all are greatful for what we have but we feel bad for others who dont have that opportunity.
I agree with Jennfer Lima. Not only should you be thankful for what you or what your parents got for you , also pray that people that are less fortunate then us at least have table to sit at have have a Thanksgiving dinner. Many people take for granted the food that they recieve everyday especially on Thanksgiving. THeir are many starving kids out there that can barely afford a piece of bread. SO be thankful for all the things that your parents do for you and also keep in mind the pople that cant sit around a table and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner like the rest of us.

For this Thanksgiving, we're staying home as usual. I have my precious father with me which makes it even more special. Thanksgiving isn't about all the food you eat because there are people out there who are struggling to find something to eat. Thanksgiving is about being grateful of all the great things that you have in life. You only live once so we shall cherish that.

Thanksgiving to me is giving back to all the people who've supported you and who have been there through everything.As well as thanking the man above for all we have. This Thanksgiving my mother and grandmother are cooking and my family is coming over as well as my mothers co workers. My brother is actually going to buy a fried turkey so it will be everybodys first time having it. My family does pray every year and my mother always lead prayer.

This Thanksgiving, my family has decided to stay at home. After everyone has made the preparations for dinner, we will sit around our table and whoever wants to give thanks can do so. Then, after eating, we'll help clean up and sit in the living room to watch a movie together.
Daisy Rivera: I also agree with Taisha B. I belive that Thanksgiving is a time to stop and to take in everything that God has given us and then thank Him for it all. I think that to many times we don't take the time to thank God for everything. This is why I think that its awsome that we have at least one day of the year dedicated to being thankful.
Thanksgiving is a major holiday to my family. On thanksgiving my family starts to cook from the night before so it's not a lot of work on thanksgiving morning. This year for thanksgiving I actually cooked my mom and the rest of my family was really proud of me. This year I ate at my house then went out with my cousins then spent the night at my grandmothers house . In the middle of the night we went shopping for televisions

To me thanksgiving means time to be with your family to give thanks for all that you've received throughout the year. This Thanksgiving I went to my aunt's house, where I helped make dinner and desert, we played dominoes, took pictures and made funny videos, I also ended up sleeping over. We don't have a special prayer we say, we speak from the heart. This year my cousins and I lead the prayer.
For thanks giving I will be home. My family will be coming over. Everyone will bring a dish. We enjoy old american classic dishes. We watch tv together and play games. And let the animals come over so they won't be left alone. This is like our personal tradition. We cant get enough of each other
This Thanksgiving I stood home with my grandparents. Every year I help them to get the food ready. I usualy watch my grandmother as she cooks the food and I set up the table. Then later on I make a cake for my father. I mostly do this because I know he has a diffirent taste from everyone else and I want him to enjoy the cake as well. Then around 7o'clock the whole family comes over and we all say grace then eat. And thats what I do on thanksgiving.. :)
I spent this Thanksgiving morning with my grandfather at my boyfriend's football game against his rival school. They lost though, 0-34. Then I finished up Thanksgiving evening with my grandparents, my mom, my cousins, and my great aunt. We ate a lot of food, laughed a lot, played oldies, watched football OF COURSE(who saw the Green Bay game??? CRAZY right.) It was a pretty good day overall!!!
I'd like to comment on Gia's post. Thanksgiving is about giving back to the people who support you. Whether it's slaving in the kitchen, attending a football game, or whatever...it still counts and bring joy to hearts and displays your appreciation :)

This giving I plan to spend the day wit my family. Mostly eating fooan catching up with my family on lives. To me thanksgiving means when your family and you take a period of time out to come together and really be a family. This thanksgiving I am going to play games and have plenty of laughs and enjoy my family for this short period of time. Hopefully I will also get to eat a good meal so I can be good for the whole weekend.
I think its really good that Sarah and her family are hosting their family thanksgiving. i hope her mom and her can pull it ff and make their family proud of them. I know Sarah is probably going to be very happy when she sees the proud faces of her family when they eat her food. So good luck Sarah.

This Thanksgiving was very memorable. My family and i gathered at our summer house in Virginia. We all ate a big meal and got to spend time together. i was especially excited and thankful that my sister is having another baby. I also got to see my first Black Friday line which was really long and scary. This will always be a memorable Thanksgiving for me.
