What does Thanksgiving mean to you?
Thanksgiving is an opportunity to stop and thank God for all we have and those we love. I'd appreciate hearing from each of you. What does Thanksgiving means to you? How do you plan to celebrate this Thanksgiving? Do you have any wish or hope or blessing for each other this Thanksgiving? Is prayer said around your table?

Thanksgiving for me means getting together with the family and thanking God for what we have and be grateful for what we have. I plan to celebreate this Thanksgiving by going out to a resturant with my mom and ordering a full turkey meal and thanking each other and God for what we have each day. My blessing for Thanksgiving is Lord, so often times, as any other day When we sit down to our meal and pray We hurry along and make fast the blessing Thanks, amen. i think that thanksgiving means to spend time with family and had a big dinner with family and give thanks to god the thing we have.
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all of our blessings. My family celebrates thanksgiving by getting together at my aunts house for a family dinner; usually my aunt leads the prayer. I hope that everyone has an Amazing Thanksgiving! :) -Vicki Mesa
I feel like it's tradition for my siblings and I to clean the whole house and watch the Thanksgiving Parade. I help my mother cook lots food from cannied yam to the turkey itself. I also have my cousins from Canarsie come over. Every year turns out to be better than before.

Every year, my aunts, uncles, and cousins come over to our house to celebrate Thanksgiving. I help my mom cook the turkey, mashed potatoes, and the stuffing. My parents lead us into prayer. After that, my family and I spend the rest of the day talking and planning what to do for Christmas!

Thanksgiving to me means getting together with ur family giving thanks to god for him having to bring my family together another year.This thanksgiving i will not be spending too much time with my family but i will go and give my blessings while im there with my family for the little bit of time. This thanksgiving i will be going to a concert but will spending my early day with my family.Even though i will not b spending much time with my family i pray that my family get together and everyone will be safe and there is no violence. I hope that all of my family members get along and everybody come together on that day and just show the love because my whole family only get together once a year and i would like if we can get together more and that is something that i would like to say to my family for the time that i am there.Durning thanksgiving my aunt always says prayer and grace at the same time.As she bless the food the whole family comes together as one and eat.May everyone have a blessed and safe thanksgiving.
Thanks Giving me to me to be thankful. Thankful that you are spending time with your friends and family. And enjoying the fest that is in front of you. Its a way for families who normally dont come together sit down and give thanks to one anther. I love thanksgiving.
I agree with Vicki posting. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all of our blessings. Some people arent always thankful untill thanksgiving times come around. But we should always be grateful no matter what time of year it is. I too hope tha everyone has a amazing thanksgiving.
To me Thanksgiving is a time where EVERYBODY takes time off of their busy schedule to be with and truely appreciate their family. Not saying that this is the only time we shouldnt take for granted those we love but its nice that basically ALL of America is really taking time to be with close people. Usually my mommy says the Thanksgiving prayer when we stand around the table OVERFLOWING with food. But some of the younger kids do try to pitch in the sing-song prayers they learn in school. Unfortunately my daddy wont be spending Thanksgiving with the family but thats ok because he knows i thank god that i have him in my life and my family is whole, because not many girls i know can say that. :)

I like Rolondra's comment. That even though she is not spending alot of time with her family she still wants to show thanks by wishing them the best. I think thats basically what everyone is doing, whether or not they can spend the whole day with those they love. It is all about taking the time (what ever you can give) to give thanks to God for all that we have.
Thanksgiving means to me is getting and celebrating together with family and by being thankful for we have and appreciating life. For thanksgiving my family is going over my grandfather 's house to enjoy amazing food.
Thanksgiving is a big day for me to thanks God for everything he had done,he is doing and he will be done for me in life. In that day,i go to the church and after the mass,my family,some friends an i,we have dinner together.

Thanksgiving, to me, is a time to get together with the people you are most grateful for in life. Everyone is so occupied with work and school most of the time. Thanksgiving, gives everyone an excuse to relax and hang out with those we don’t get to hang out with that much. It’s like a reunion with the people who are very busy the rest of the year. Usually, my family celebrates Thanksgiving at my aunt’s house, however, she’s been too busy lately to hold the celebration at her house, and then tidy up afterwards, so we are going to stay home this Thanksgiving, with a simple everyday dinner. A wish for those that I am grateful for, and even those I don’t know, is happiness, because you can never be too happy. Not everyone is very content with life, so if joy would like to mosey on into everyone’s life I would really appreciate it. My family doesn’t usually say prayer at Thanksgiving dinner. I think we did it once, but that’s all.
I agree with Jelisa. Thanksgiving is a time to spend time with loved ones that you don’t normally get the time to spend time with. That’s what I like about national holidays like Thanksgiving. These days give everyone an excuse to spend times with the one they probably take for granted, and realize that they should be grateful for them.
Thanksgiving for me means gathering together with family members and people that love you, to give thanks to God for the many blessings He gave and continues to give to us. Although, everyday should be a day to thank God and be grateful for what you have.
Usually, I have two thanksgiving celebrations with both sides of my family (since my family consists of so many people), either me, or any family member who is a child or teen says the thanksgiving prayers before we eat and my two grandmothers cook the major meals. (Making thanksgiving an even more special day for me.)
I agree with everyone who posted before mine about their meaning of Thanksgiving. I think Sara's prayer is cute and I agree with Vicki about how everyone's Thanksgiving day should be amazing and Valiette's feeling that each year the Thanksgiving celebration turns out better than the previous year.
every year my family and i have dinner at my house early. then everyone goes to my grandmother's house for the rest of the day. i thank god for letting me see another thanksgiving year.

For thanksgiving my mom and I are cooking thanksgiving foodand every year my brother, my mom and I watch christmas movies and putting up the christmas tree. We usually pray to God because to give him that my family and I are still together in this special holiday.
To me Thanksgiving is a time to refect and to give thanks on the good and important things we have. We are so fortunate to be able to celbrate Thanksgiving with the people we love and we should be thanking every moment of it. ThanksGiving to me ,is cooking and staying home with the family and eating trukey and say a prayer before eating,and also thanking god for evrything we'll grateful for !
My plans for this Thanksgiving is staying home in my P.Js and eat turkey, watching movies with the family, and just be grateful for what I have .

Thanksgiving to me means to spend quality time with your family and to eat turkey with them. It is a time to get together with you family and have a great time with them. Your family are the most important people in your life because they are the ones that watched you grow up your whole life.

I think ThanksGiving is one of the biggest holidays of the year. I don't think it's the biggest beacuse of the food, but because on this day we can take a time off of our lives and just give thanks to GOD for what we have and what we dont have. ThnaksGiving is a day of prayer and giving thanks.

Thanksgiving for me means another year i get to have some quality time with the family. Now that the economy is in what it is in and times re getting hard, just having dinner with the family is a blessing. i enjoyed reading Zari's comment. Thanksgiving shouldn't be the only time families spend time together. It should be a time where everyone gives thanks for another year or for another day of living.

My Thanksgiving was at my nephew's house in the Bronx. My two sisters and their families gathered for a great meal. Everyone brought something, the fine meal and great chocolate chip cookies stand out in my mind and belly. My sister brought the prayer, a niece with an expecting baby and another newly engaged niece made the gathering so very happy. I feel and felt blessed by God in all these ways. Well to me Thanksgiving is just a day to give thanks for the things around you. Ifeel that in the last century people have taken the holiday out of context. It shouldn't be a holiday also known as "Turkey Day" it should be what its name is a day where we give thanks. We don't take out enough time in the day to actually be thankful for what we have..well i don't. This Thanksgiving i helped out with serving food to the elderly and shutens in my building and this help teachme not to take things for granted and to stop being mad at what i don't have and be happy with what i do have. We should make everyday Thanksgiving Day. So i will end with this Happy Thanksgiving today and everyday.
I don't know i agree with what everyones saying but like i said for me thanksgiving means something way different. My time with God and alone to just think and meditate on my life and the things and people around me. Thanks Sister Nora for making this blog =]
I agree with everyone. Thanksgiving is where families are thankful which brings many many more blessings to the family as a whole. Thankgiving isn't only a holiday that bring families closer but it makes you think about the things you're really thankful for.
Thanksgivings means to me spending time with your love one and friends. Jus being surround by love and care and it a time to let loose and have fun.
To me, Thanksgiving is a time where friends and family get together and give thanks for the many blessings they have in their lives. Thanksgiving has been celebrated by our ancestors for centuries and it's a pleasure for us to celebrate it each year. During my Thanksgiving, I went to the Thanksgiving Day Parade and experienced it in the VIP section. I had an amazing time at the parade and experienced nothing but happiness & laughter with my mom and everyone around me. I had a great Thanksgiving feast with my family as well.

Thanksgiving is a day where we also give thanks to the many blessings God has bestowed on us and keeps gving to us. We should be grateful for the blessings we have regardless if it's Thanksgiving or not.
Thanksgiving to me is a holiday that reminds us of the fact that we need to deeper appreciate even the little things in life that we have, and that we can never take anything that life gives us for granted. This year for Thanksgiving,my family and I went to my brother's house and we were joined by his wife and my lovely nephew as well as family friends. We had a big Thanksgiving feast and dined and shared moments with each other. After we all ate, the dancing began. My other brother began to play some classic merengues and bachatas that we had an amazing time dancing to. Overall, I'd say my Thanksgiving experience this year was beautiful.
I agree with Zari's comment. I feel that it's beautiful how all of America seems to take time off from work or whatever it is they have to do to spend time with their family and be grateful. Of course, it shouldn't be the only time, but it is the only time that makes being thankful and grateful official and it makes Thanksgiving so much more beautiful! :)
In my eyes, Thanksgiving is a time to rejoice and dwell upon the good times you've shared with your loved ones and continue to share treasuring moments with them. Thanksgiving of 2010, I celebrated at my house with my family. We had a tradition American style feast with tons of turkey! I am thankful for everything god has given me.
I really like Zari's post! I agree 100%. Thanksgiving isn't only about getting together with your family and celebrating with a feast but it is also about taking time out of your busy schedule to give thanks for everything you have.
Astrid's Thanksgiving of dancing away the day sounds like a lot of fun and joy. Alia's trip to the Thanksgiving Parade in the VIP section also sounds special. Most of all I enjoy hearing about everyone's "real life" outside of school, of being thankful and being with family. May God continue to help us be thankful for what we have. Emmanuela's helping those not able to get out of their home for Thanksgiving was just wonderful to hear about.

To me Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what we have but mostly remember those who don't have as well and keep them in our prayers. It's also the only time my mom cooks :). My sister and I both lead in prayer, and we usually have the Christmas tree up by Thanksgiving. We don't need a crowd of people with us. Only the main family.

Thanksgiving means sitting around the table with my family and enjoying the company of eachother. We normally don't eat together, and my dad is always working, so this time of year is very important for all of us. We remember the people who don't have any and ask God to protect them.

Thanksgiving is the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, a day set apart for giving thanks to God. We all have different experiences that teach us that nothing is certain and nothing should be taken for granted. My Thanksgiving is very boring nothing to do. To me Thanksgiving is cooking more than you usually do for nothing.

Thanksgiving means to me getting together with all my family, eating traditional food, and being thankful for everything that god has given me. I planned a family reunion in my house my whole family came. Yes, we are all blessed because our family sticks together. Yes, a prayer was said around the table before we ate because it's a family tradition. Yes, the person who leads the prayer was my mother because the family reunion was in our house. To me Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks but also appreciating what you have like family, friends, food, shelter, and etc. I plan to celebrate by the family cooking a big meal and all of us coming together at my house to eat and enjoy ourselves. The prayer I use for Thanksgiving is the Before A Meal prayer and then we eat and watch a bunch of movies afterwards. =)
To me Thanksgiving is a time when you give thanks to the blessings that God gives you. We give thanks to our family who although make get on our last nerve, are always there for us. We give thanks for our friend who help us get through the school year in one piece. We also get a chance to just sit and relax which is rare for the life of a junior. This Thanksgiving was unlike my other Thanksgiving because it was much smaller. But although it wasn’t what I was use to I still enjoyed my Thanksgiving.
I like Zari’s comment, life can get pretty hectic and I’m glad that during the holiday season that everyone makes time for family because we shouldn’t take what we have for granted. It’s the little things that we take for grated that help keep us grounded. I’m sorry to hear that your daddy wasn’t able to join you this Thanksgiving but I hope you had a good one.
I feel that Thanksgiving is mostly about spending time with your family and loved ones. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks to God and be grateful to being fortunate. My family and I celebrate Thanksgiving by having dinner at my grandma's house.My aunt and my grandma prepare all the dinner. I bake cakes for my families dessert. After dinner everyone relaxes and converse over different topics.

thanksgiving in my shoes is when you walk in the house and you see a long table full of food which means i get to eat as many times as i want today and my mother cant tell me to stop. haha and also means cooking the the whole day no fun because you dont eat lunch you just wait for dinner but you cant because all you smell is the dinner food =( .... My thanksgiving was great this year because i did wake up to the smell of what we having for dinner see this year i was smart i slept over the house that wasnt going to cook so i head luch then went over to the house where we willl be eatting together

I think that Thanksgiving means spending time with the ones you love and being grateful for what you have. For this thanksgiving my family and I went to my uncle's house to spend Thanksgiving with the rest of my family and with my grandmother before she goes back to St. Vincent
To me Thanksgiving time is to be thankful and to love everything that we have. Thanksgiving time is a time where most of the family meets together for a big dinner and celebration to show that we appreciate what we have and don't take it for granted. Thanksgiving celebrations can be big or small as along as we show appreciation and thanks.

Thanksgiving is a day when the family gets together and prepares a meal. Times these days everyones life is pretty hectic and families dont have to actually sit down and enjoy a meal. Thanksgiving is a time when families come together to share a meal, memories, and laugh together. You think about the things you are thankful , which are things you might overlook on regular days. Thanksgiving is a family time where you dont worry about the problems you deal with every other day.
I agree with Tyler that Thanksgiving means gathering together with family members and people that love you. Just as Tyler said, my family is also is pretty big and in my familty we also let one of the kids say the thanksgiving prayer before everyone eats as a family.
To me, Thanksgiving is a time in which all your loved ones get together and cherish eachothers company. I dont believe its a time to thank God for your family because we should thank Him every day for that. During Thanksgiving, my mom usually makes turkey every year and my aunt prepares the rest. My job is to decorate the house, table, and make my delicious rasberry cheesecake. This year, we ended not doing that but instead we prepared a regular meal and played video and board games.

Every year my aunt cooks a traditional haitian food and we gather together and celebrate life and love. We give thanks to God for the blessing we have in our lives.(irony is my cousin/goddaughter is named blessing)We talk about how our life and memories some happy but other sad but we as a family we are bless with what position experience we have and even after the unfortunate event in my families country we learned not take things for granted and to love the most important people in my life.
I feel that Thanksgiving is a special time to spend with your family and friends and realize that even though you may not always get what you want you have something to be thankful for. Spending time with my family on thanksgiving is very important to me because its a day to reflect sit down and eat.

This day is meant to be celebrated in union with one another, enjoy it together as a family. You don't have to have a big dinner on Thanksgiving but its a great way to bond with love ones. I especially enjoy Thanksgiving because I get to see family members and friends that I might havent seen in months or even years. Thanksgiving is not a holiday in which materialistic things are needed, its holiday with emotional bonging and a way to show how much a person is valuable to you.

Thanksgiving is a moment to thank God for all he has put in your path throughout the year. Astrid's Thanksgiving reminds me a lot of mine. It sounds like the typical Hispanic Thanksgiving...dancing, eating, and more dancing :)

To me Thanksgiving means being thankful for everything around you..friends, family, love ones having a place to sleep etc. My thanksgiving was very sad and emotional because it was my first thanksgiving without my mother. Nothing was the same. Other than that it was okay because we got together as a family and had fun even though we were hurting inside.

I'm grateful to Dominique for sharing her very real feelings about her first Thanksgiving without her mother. I was in that position 3 years ago. I was fortunate that my long-time neighbor invited me to join her and her friends for Thanksgiving that year. It wasn't the same as other years, but it meant a lot to me to not be alone. Quality time spent with those who love us make a difference!
Thanksgiving to me means getting together with your family to thank God for giving us so much good in our lives. This thanksgiving I spent my entire day in the bronx. I spoke and spent the day with my biological father on thusday for the first time in about six years. That was a different experience for me to endure on thanksgiving. At the end of the day, I realized that i was thankful to have such a loving family and supportive friends.
I agree with Melanie's post because she said that Thanksgiving gives everyone an excuse to relax and hang out with those we don’t get to hang out with that much and is like a reunion with the people who are very busy the rest of the year. I agree with her because this thanksgiving provided me with a chance to catch up with my father after so long. It also, like melanie said, gave me a chance to relax without worrying about school or babysitting.

Thanksgiving is about coming together with your family or even freinds and being thankful for what god has brought you through during the year and for whatyou are blessed with.This thanks giving was the first year that it was held at my house.everyone prepared a dish that they enjoyed making and brought it over ,we all gathered around prayed and ate, truly being thankful for what we had.

My Thanksgiving is great. My mom and i went to my grandfather's house in the Bronx. My family and i ate Caribbean and soul food also reminiscing.

My thanksgiving was good. not as much of my family came but at the end of the day my family, who were able to make it came and we had a good time together with out any fights. I am grateful for my family even when they made me cook by my self for thanksgiving.

Well, i use to live in Massachusetts and to us it meant that it was a time of peace and union. Since it is a state that grately celebrates thanksgiving, it was meaningful to many people. My family is huge and we like to all reunite for this holiday specifically and have a great feast. I think thanksgiving is wonderful and everyone ahould enjoy it with thwir family.

The most important thing we must do on this day is sit back and acknowledge that everything is goood; just like the reading in the Bible when God creates all living creatures and man and women. "He looked at what he made, and it was good". We shouldnt take things for granted and cherish our family and forget about material things. A brand name bag gets old and youll end up buying a new one. The love of God and the love in your family never fades.
