This book is amazing. What I am most impressed with is the gripping story of this girl - her expereinces causes your stomach to turn as if you're having the exprience with here.

I am very impressed that Khaled Hosseini seems to convey the exprience of an Afgan woman so well!

I thought that this book was great. I felt that it revealed the side of Afghanistan that we did not know. However, I didn't approve of the way the Afgan women were treated.

I really enjoyed reading " A Thousand Splendid Suns". It taught me how in other countries they dont have it as good as we do, and we take things for granted. The way the author explained every situation in details was amazing. He took you to Afghanistan without meeting you. While reading this book I feel like I was Mariam which was one of the characters going through the problems she had.

I am happy that the english department required us to read this book.

Thanks for your comments on the summer reading. The country of Afghanistan was like a character of the book.
Remember the assignment questions are available on the school website.
See you soon,

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was really interesting the way that a male author wrote from a female's prospective. The book felt so real, like i was a part of it. Learning about the Afghan culture kept me drawn in and attentive throught the entire novel.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns"
This was a great book to read but after hearing what actually goes on in the life of afghanistan was heart-breaking. To me this book put you in the place to you actually being there. I do not agree how the rules, the treatment, and the young people loosing their lives so early instead of living their life to the fullest. The treatment for women was unnecessary for the way they was living. But I can say I love when the abusive husband Rasheed got what was his at the end of the story, and how peoples lives were at least restore. I would recommend this book most definitely.

Obviously "A Thousand Splendid Suns" was a well written novel. Heck, it was a New York Times best seller with stellar reviews from many other prominent prints however I was disappointed with the book. Mr. Hosseini wrote a FICTIONAL story on the harsh REALITY of thousands of women and didn't bother acknowledging the real women that face this harsh treatment daily. I understand he wrote also on the oppression of an entire people but those words weren't as hurtful and stomach churning as what he made these two women endure. Also, the women were about 75% of the novel. I can more further explain my opinions in person. Knowing the content of the novel before hand I wouldn't have paid my earned money for it.

On a lighter note, I hope everyone enjoyed their summer and I can't wait to see all of your shining faces soon.

I really enjoyed this book I couldn' put it down. After reading this I read Kite Ruuner. Khaled Hosseini is an excellent writer. This novel was very emotional and realistic. From reading this my eyes were open to mistreatment women which is socially acceptable in some places. In a way it is ironic that a man writes in the point of view of abused women, espeically so well. I wish to learn more about Afghanistan and other nations and their cultures after reading this book.

A Thousand Splendid Suns has to be one of the best novels that a school could have given us to read. I wouldn't say it was a good book because those aren't the words, I would say its an AMAZING book. While reading this novel i got to learn about the hard times going on in that society and what life was like for Miriam. Khaled Hosseini did a great job with this book. :-)

I am happy that I was able to read this book because I was truly captivated with the storyline. Reading this book changed my entire perspective of Afghanistan women. They really had it and still have it bad. While I was reading I could feel agony of Mariam and Laila. Being able to connect with the characters of the story was something that I really liked. I believe that Khaled Hosseini is an amazening writer and I think that he really proved it with this novel.

I was really pleased with reading this book. It started off slow but then suddenly i couldn't put the book down. I was so taken by the story. I was reading the book at a big group retreat and i just sat there with my nose in the book for hours. I even got all excited at certain parts. I was amazed at how the story constantly turned my emotions. When the story connected the two protagonists it only got better. I'm glad I was able to read this because it gave me a look into a world that was always just a mystery. Now I know i shouldn't pass judgments.

I feel that Khaled Hosseini did a great job with incorporating this fictional story with past events and the very true reality of what women in Afghanistan go through even now. It made it so much more interesting and helped us identify with the characters.

I was also amazed at how Khaled Hosseini was able to portray these women. The repression of these women was heart-breaking and definitely upsetting. Hopefully people can learn to appreciate how good we've got it here.
